To The Editor: I would like to retract and restate my editorial published in the Warren County Record on March 23.In my haste to assail what I see as a dysfunctional and repetitive dialog about Missouri’s highway system, I was unintentionally disrespectful to persons whose work I greatly respect and value. I expressed my opinions in a rude, unproductive, immature fashion, and wish to apologize to any who were hurt or offended by my inappropriately pointed comments. While it was my intent to be provocative, it’s clear to me now that my provocations were not properly structured to usefully advance any discussion about options for Interstate 70. It has been brought to my attention that some persons who were not intended to be targets of my ire have been discontented by the way I expressed myself, and for that I sincerely apologize.I am extremely passionate about helping Missouri solve its transportation infrastructure woes, and this passion sometimes influences me to speak off the cuff when I should be more diplomatic and considerate in the way I make remarks. After all, rarely has a person been convinced of a position by being insulted.I want to express how interested I am to support MoDOT’s (Missouri Department of Transportation) efforts to find a way forward to resolving the long-standing issues with I-70, and retract my crude attack on tolling and the persons involved with the effort to toll I-70. While I may not think tolling is the appropriate solution, many people who I respect do think it’s workable, and it was not my intent to offend those who have an honest and benevolent belief that tolling is the right way forward for Missouri. Tim Sylvester,FounderIntegratedRoadways.com
