The Wright City R-II School District administered the oath of office to its recently elected board members during the monthly meeting April 18.Incumbents Alice Jensen and Heidi Box retained their spots on the board during the election on April 4, while newcomer Michael Bates was voted in to serve his first term.Bates is a human resources director for United Services of St. Charles County and is a Wright City graduate. He replaced outgoing member Corri Ruge, who did not run for re-election following three terms. She was recognized during the meeting for her more than nine years of service to the board and contributions to the district.“Corri will continue to serve the school and community in many ways,” said Superintendent David Buck. “She’s been a great asset to our kids, and we’re very fortunate to have her.”A restructuring of the leadership also took place during the April meeting, with the board voting on new officers.Austin Jones retained his role as president, while Jensen remains vice president. With the departure of Ruge, board member David Mikus was promoted to secretary.Meanwhile, Mary Groeper was elected treasurer and will also serve as Bates’ mentor.Buck says the transition to the new board has been smooth and prompt, with a board orientation already having been held by Jones. He adds that the board will move forward with deciding its new objectives over the next few months.“We’ll set goals in the summer,” said Buck. “At our May meeting we will set our June workshop and determine our goals at that time.”
