The Warrenton wrestling team advanced all seven of its state qualifiers past the first day of competition at the MSHSAA Championships. The Warriors worked their Class 3 first round matches with relative ease, sending four directly into Friday's quarterfinals. Senior Zach Schall opened with a win by fall at 112 pounds. Junior Sean Daven followed by escaping a deficit to claim a win by fall at 119 pounds. Senior Steven rebounded from an early deficit to claim a win by decision at 135 pounds. Senior Jake DeClue took his 145-pound match by technical fall. Senior John Meyer pinned his opponent in the 189-pound opener. Junior Will Filipek also pinned his first opponent in the 215-pound bracket. The Warriors' only loss came in the heavyweight division, as junior Reece Berry lost by decision. Berry rebounded in his wrestleback match, winning by fall early in the first period. Warrenton awaits the quarterfinal round, which begins at 1:30 p.m. on Friday.
