Record Staff WriterDave Briner, owner of Schroeder’s Garage, is continuing a 40-year tradition in Treloar. The original owner of the garage, Elroy Schroeder, owned the body shop and garage for most of his life. In the time Briner worked for Schroeder, it was more than just a repair shop. Schroeder also did body work, sold gasoline and cars.Briner is attempting to continue that tradition.“We kept the name and phone number,” said Briner, of his attempt to honor Schroeder’s memory. The business is located at 16682 Kansas St.Briner was a mechanic at the shop for several years before he had surgery on his back that put him out of commission. Now, since the shop has been closed a couple of years, he faces a few struggles.“The insurance on gasoline is a hassle,” he said.Gasoline is one of his main goals for the shop in the coming year, though. Right now, residents of the area have to drive 15 minutes to the nearest gas station in Marthasville.“I had a shop in my early 20s,” he said. That experience, combined with the time he worked for Schroeder, has kept the doors open since July.Briner also hopes to reopen the sales side of the business, so residents might be able to shop locally for their vehicles.Right now, aside from the body work and mechanical repair, Schroeder’s also offers state inspections. Residents who need an inspection can now stop at either of the two shops in Treloar. For more information, Schroeder’s Garage can be reached at 636-932-4279.
