Following an extensive two-month process, the Warren County R-III School District has chosen Loraine Raziq as its new high school principal. She was among 27 candidates who applied, and four who were ultimately interviewed, for the position to replace Nick Heggemann, whose contract was not renewed after three years of service.Raziq is a Hazelwood native and an 18-year educator within the Hazelwood School District. She served seven years as assistant principal at Hazelwood West and moved to the associate principal role at Hazelwood Central at the beginning of the 2015-2016 school year.“The district is very excited to find somebody with her background and experience,” said R-III Assistant Superintendent Aaron Jones. “The leadership at the high school is a very important position, because it’s the biggest building in our district and has the most staff members. From a state perspective, it has the most standards graded.”Raziq says she has enjoyed her time at Hazelwood Central but has been looking to move to a smaller district, as the enrollment in her current building has grown dramatically to 2,600.“I’m really excited to have this chance and to get to be a part of a smaller community again,” said Raziq. “It’s very surreal. I’ve wanted a more rural setting where everybody knows who you are. I miss that.”Jones says the hiring panel was particularly enticed by Raziq’s experience with two of the district’s most coveted areas.“She’s got a strong background in our PLC and PBIS, which are district initiatives,” said Jones.“Student achievement is always our No. 1 goal, and we want to continue to grow in the progress we’ve seen over the past few years.”“I was very excited when I was talking with the staff to find out that is something they’re very vested in,” said Raziq, concerning PLC and PBIS. “I’m excited to see what the students and teachers think really works — what makes them feel valued and acknowledged.”Raziq lives in O’Fallon with her husband Abe and her daughters Amelia and Gwendolyn.

Loraine Raziq was chosen from a pool of 27 applicants to be the new principal at Warrenton High School beginning in the 2017-18 school year. Raziq has been an educator for 18 years and is currently the associate principal at Hazelwood Central High School. Record photo/ Derrick Forsythe.
