The 2011 Warren County Fair will be under new leadership.
Mike Eckhoff was unanimously elected Warren County Fair Board president during the association’s annual meeting Saturday night at the fairgrounds. He will serve a one-year term.
Eckhoff replaces Roger Owenby who has served as president for the past four years. He replaced Frank Stuermann in 2006.
Owenby, who wanted to see someone else take over the top leadership position, will continue to serve on the board as the first vice president.
The 38-year-old Eckhoff is a lifelong Warren County resident and currently lives in Warrenton. He said he is eager to play a bigger role in future Fairs.
“I was happy they elected me,” Eckhoff said. “Roger didn’t want to do it anymore, so I was excited they (other board members) nominated and elected me.”
Eckhoff is entering only his second year on the Fair Board, but was instrumental in a few changes made in the past year. He served as the chairman for the parade and the truck and tractor pull.
Eckhoff said he doesn’t plan any immediate changes, but is open to new ideas. He said the Fair Board will begin working soon to review finances and prepare for the 2011 event.
“I thought this year was very good,” Eckhoff said. “I thought we put on a good Fair for the community.”
He added, “I got quite a few ideas to see if we can make it better.”
The 2011 Fair has yet to be scheduled, but if the board chooses to remain around the Fourth of July holiday, the Fair would likely be held July 3-9. Eckhoff said the board will set an official date at the October board meeting.
The Fair Board will welcome several new members and officers after elections were held Saturday.
Joining Eckhoff and Owenby as officers in 2010-2011 are Bob Wattler, second vice president; Patrick Simpson, treasurer; and Shelia Miles, secretary.
Elected to the Fair Board were Bill Wisdom, Arnold Hackmann, Shawn Borgmann, Jim Cobb and Simpson, who will each serve three-year terms, and Walt Boismenue and Matt O’Brien, who will fill one-year terms.
Wisdom, Hackmann, Borgmann, Cobb and Boismenue are all new board members.
The Fair Board meets the second Tuesday of every month at Firehouse No. 1 at 7:30 p.m.
