In an effort to increase safety for students, faculty, and staff, the Wright City R-II School District and the Wright City Police Department recently announced an expanded partnership to better serve the district.
Effective immediately, there will be a more noticeable police presence at all district buildings.
According to the district, “This proactive approach supports day-to-day safety and also provides valuable opportunities for students to interact with officers to foster familiarity and positive relationships.”
Wright City Police Chief Tom Canavan echoed the need to strengthen relationships between his department and the school community.
“The safety of our students is a shared responsibility, and we’re proud to strengthen our partnership with the Wright City R-II School District,” Canavan said. “Our increased presence on campus is about visibility, relationship-building, and ensuring a smooth school day. Building positive, everyday interactions in our schools helps make that possible and reinforces that we are here to support a safe and welcoming learning environment for every student.”
The enhanced presence comes as traffic patterns shift due to ongoing Interstate construction.
With work underway on the Wildcat Drive overpass and the anticipated temporary closure of the Route 47 bridge in Warrenton as part of the I-70 project, district leaders anticipate increased traffic near school campuses.
With the changes, Wright City Superintendent Dr. Amy Salvo said the expanded police presence will continue to benefit students, providing a safe place to learn.
“We’re excited to strengthen our partnership with the Wright City Police Department as we continue prioritizing safe, welcoming schools where students can focus on learning,” Salvo said. “We’re thankful for this strong collaboration and confident that together we can continue creating the safe, supportive environment our students deserve.”
