Even though gross receipts for this year's Warren County Fair Livestock Auction were slightly down, organizers were pleased that the overall price per pound averages were up from last year. This year's auction generated $130,336.98 in gross receipts from the sale of 138 animals. Last year's auction raised $133,021.93 from the sale of 149 animals. The decrease in the overall amount of money raised can be partly attributed to having fewer animals sold this year, as it appeared a schedule change with the night the livestock auction was held had no effect on attendance. The auction was held on Friday night. In the past, it normally had been held on Thursday. "I felt moving the auction to Friday allowed more people to attend," said Jeff Schneider, who co-chaired the auction with his wife, Jennifer, and Dave and Alexis Mikus. "There were several new buyers who purchased a few animals. "Overall, I thank everyone for their wonderful support," Schneider added. "We're glad the buyers keep coming back." A total of 34 steers were sold during the beef auction, which brought in $68,265.01 in gross receipts. The average price per pound was $1.60. The 1,270-pound grand champion steer, exhibited by Cindy Ebbesmeyer, was purchased by Carpenters Local 3202 for $2,667 ($2.10 per pound). Jacob Abel's reserve champion steer was bought by MFA-Marthasville for $2,629 ($2.20 per pound). Sixty hogs were sold during the swine sale for $44,247.10. The average price per pound was $2.84. Marschel Wrecking LLC purchased the grand champion hog from Kevin Schneider for $1,536 ($6 per pound). The reserve champion hog, exhibited by Nick Schneider, was bought by Niemann Tax Service for $840 ($3.50 per pound). Cassidy Ward's grand champion sheep was bought by Bobby Spoonster for $761.75 ($5.50 per pound). Pumpkins Galore purchased the reserve grand champion sheep exhibited by Rachel Higgins for $586.63 ($4.75 per pound). Twenty sheep were sold overall for $9,786, at an average price of $4.24 per pound. Ten rabbits were sold at an average price of $367.50, or $3,675 overall. The grand champion, shown by Bradin Nadler, was purchased by Carpenter's Local 3202 for $350. Highway 47 West Trailer Sales, Kaimann Auctions and Real Estate and Kemper Marsh Millard Family Funeral Home bought Bailey Ressegger's reserve champion rabbit for $300. In the goat sale, the grand champion, exhibited by Daniel Dothage, was purchased by Jonesburg Grain for $448.50 ($6.50 per pound). The reserve grand champion, shown by Jill Abel, sold for $667.88 ($9.75 per pound) to Titan Homes Inc., Arnold and Associates and Kramer, Vernon. Eleven goats were sold overall for $3,513.88. The average price was $4.57 per pound. Three chickens sold for $850 overall. The average price was $283.33. Verlyn and Donna Schultz, Carmen Schultz and Bonnie Vahle purchased the grand champion chicken exhibited by Joanne Niederer for $400. The reserve grand champion, shown by Alexis Ulett, was bought for $175 by Engelage Cattle Company. The auctioneers for this year's auction were Allen Auction, of Hawk Point, Kaimann Auctions and Real Estate, of Troy, and State Rep. Bart Korman.
