Last year Wright City established a local Kiwanis Club, and now Warrenton has followed suit.Kiwanis International is an organization of clubs around the world in communities and schools. The clubs organize locally to strengthen the community by serving local children. Clubs have provided reading rooms in schools, packed backpacks with school supplies and funded programs that teach skills or provide safety lessons.Martha Radginski is a lieutenant governor with Kiwanis who helps new clubs establish themselves. She assisted Wright City Kiwanis when it formed and is assisting Warren Kiwanis now.“We try to have experienced Kiawanians join new clubs to get them started,” she said.Radginski said Wright City Kiwanis has 34 members and people continue to join. She said at one time there was conversation about establishing one club for both towns.“In talking with Warren County residents (we learned) they are two distinct areas that really needed their own clubs,” said Radginski. The new Warrenton Kiwanis Club will first look at the needs of children in the community and decide what projects are needed that will benefit local kids. Potential projects were discussed at the initial organizational meeting March 7.Radginski said at the March 7 meeting officers were selected, the group set bylaws and discussed the direction of the club. The officers are Brandon Kurtz, president, Michelle Bernth, president-elect, Lindsay Castello, treasurer, Martha Radginski, secretary, and Sandy Feldkamp, board member.Warrenton Kiwanis Club will meet again at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 26, at the Scenic Regional Library in Warrenton, 912 S. State Highway 47. Anyone with an interest in Kiwanis may attend or visit the group’s Facebook page for more information.Anyone who is interested in membership but is unable to attend can email membership@kiwanis.org.
