There will be a new date for this year’s Blue and Gold fundraiser, but organizers expect another great turnout and evening. This year’s dinner auction will be held Saturday, April 2, at the Wright City Lions Club.Normally, the fundraiser is held in March, but due to the early Easter holiday this year a decision was made to push back the event.“We switched it up so there wouldn’t be a conflict,” committee member Jackie Nierman said. This year’s fundraiser will start at 5 p.m. Tickets cost $50 per person and includes appetizers, prime rib dinner, dessert and drinks. Silent and oral auctions will also be held. Two gun raffles are planned as well and attendees can have free pictures taken in a photo booth. The theme is “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.” The fundraising goal is $50,000, Nierman said.“We have been happy with the support,” she said.Proceeds will benefit the Wright City High School scholarship fund and be presented to graduating seniors and other students enrolled. From 2000 to 2015, 305 students have been awarded $489,000 in scholarship. In the past two years, $77,700 has been presented to seniors who live in the Wright City R-II School District and college students continuing their education. The scholarships are awarded to students based on financial need, academic achievement and overall good citizenship. Students planning to enter a four-year university, two-year community college or vocational school are eligible to apply.“The generous support form the community has been outstanding over the year,” Nierman said. “It’s nice to live in a community that continues to support the kids and their education.”Some of the auction items include Cardinals baseball tickets, six reserved seats to the Wright City High School graduation and naming rights to the football field and gymnasium. For ticket reservations or for more information, contact Jackie Nierman at 636-497-6220, Kristen Beckmeyer at 636-745-3339 or Lois Meyer at 636-745-3333.Blue and Gold Dinner AuctionWhen: Saturday, April 2Where: Wright City Lions ClubTime: 5 p.m.Cost: Tickets cost $50 per person.Wright City R-II
