For the second year in a row, the Relay For Life of Warrenton will boast a new date and time. This year’s fundraiser to support the American Cancer Society will be held from 3-11 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27, at Black Hawk Middle School in Warrenton.A year ago, the event was held on the last Saturday in September, the same day as the city of Warrenton’s Fall Festival.Organizers hope the date change and time change — the length has been shortened by two hours — will garner more participation.“We wanted to keep it in the fall so we could continue to get more of the schools involved,” said Kanna Rook, American Cancer Society senior community manager.Excitement is building for this year’s Relay For Life. A kickoff meeting was held last Monday, March 14, to announce this year’s goals and to begin preparations for the event.Relay For Life is the largest fundraiser walk in the nation as participant will walk around the school’s track. In addition, a number of activities are held throughout the fundraiser. Rook said a band and bubble soccer may be added to the lineup and perhaps a mechanical bull and kids corner. “We are also hoping to really ramp up the entertainment and activities this year, adding more activities for the kids and teams throughout the day and night,” she explained. “We’d love to have more businesses and organizations get involved by either signing up as a team or just sponsoring a booth or activities. This year’s theme is “Get Your Game On!” Each team will pick a game, such as Candy Land, Clue, Scrabble or Operation, as their campsite theme, Rook said.Organizers have set a goal to raise $45,000 this year. Other goals are for participation to reach 25 teams, 250 individuals and 100 survivors and caregivers.Ten teams and 33 participated have registered so far.Individuals or teams can sign up at relayforlife.org/warrencomo.Other activities planned leading up to the Relay For Life include numerous monthly fundraisers held at Warrenton and Wentzville restaurants and Paint the Town Purple awareness campaign in August. For more information, contact Rook at kanna.rook@cancer.org or 636-866-4884.Relay For Life of Warren CountyWhen: Saturday, Aug. 27Where: Black Hawk Middle School, Warrenton.Time: 3-11 p.m.Relay for Life Fundraiser
