In what aldermen called “a sign of the times,” the city of Warrenton will install bullet-resistant glass in the lobbies of city hall. The glass will be installed in the interior windows on the upper floor where several clerks assist members of the public, as well as the lower floor at the police department clerk desk.Mayor Eric Schleuter said the city has considered installing bullet-resistant glass for years, following a 2008 shooting rampage at a Kirkwood City Council meeting that killed five people and injured two others.“It’s something we’ve been entertaining for a while, trying to make it more secure, ever since Kirkwood,” Schleuter said. “It’s for the protection of our employees.”Installing the bullet-resistant glass is more feasible and cost-effective than having full-time security in the lobby of city hall every single day, Schleuter said. The city’s board of aldermen on Tuesday, June 20, approved a $45,000 contract with St. Charles Glass and Glazing for the installation. The city had set aside $46,000 for the project in 2016.Warrenton City Hall
