The not-for-profit North East Community Action Corporation (NECAC) is urging eligible people to sign up for a summer energy assistance program. The summer Energy Crisis Intervention Program (ECIP) is a federally funded effort that pays overdue electricity bills up to $300 for income-qualifying households.Through June 26, about half the money has been allocated. The program does not end until Sept. 30 or when money runs out.Participants must have received a utility shut-off notice. If they received assistance from the winter portion of the program through NECAC, all that will be needed is the shut-off notice. Those who are new to the program, and those who did not participate in the winter portion, must fill out additional paperwork.Applications are available at NECAC Service Centers in 12 Northeast Missouri counties.People may sign up or request more information by visiting the NECAC office at 120 E.
