The not-for-profit North East Community Action Corporation (NECAC), a 12-county area social service, community health and public housing community action agency, is accepting candidate nominations to fill a board vacancy in Warren County.The nomination deadline is Jan. 25.Qualified residents are being invited to serve the remaining nine months of a four-year term as a Low-Income Representative (LIR) on the agency’s 36-member volunteer board of directors. The term will expire Sept. 30 and the person will then be eligible for election to a full four-year term.The nomination period opened Dec. 27. All nominated candidates will be required to submit a resume or complete a biographical questionnaire. Nomination forms are available at the NECAC Warren County Service Center, 120 Main in Warrenton.LIR candidates must be residents of Warren County and be nominated by a low-income resident of the county or a service organization or group that serves the interest and needs of the low-income in the county. LIR candidates need not be a low-income person themselves. A candidate will be elected by the NECAC Board during its regular meeting on Jan. 29, with installation and term of office beginning March 26.The NECAC Board meets seven times a year on the fourth Tuesday at 7 p.m. during the months of January, March, May, July, September, October and November at the agency’s Central Administration Executive Office Building in Bowling Green. A complimentary meal is provided to board members before each meeting and a travel reimbursement of 51 cents per mile to and from each meeting is allowed. Meetings usually are completed by 9 p.m.NECAC is one of 19 not-for-profit Community Action Agencies in Missouri and more than 1,000 across the United States. . The agency’s Central Administration Executive Office Building is located in Bowling Green, with NECAC Service Centers operated in each county. Marion County Presiding Commissioner Lyndon Bode of Palmyra is the current chairman of the board and Don Patrick of Louisiana is the agency’s president and chief executive officer.The NECAC board consists of three representatives from each of the 12 counties served. Each county is represented by one public elected official (PEO), one civic interest representative (CIR) and one LIR. Currently serving on the NECAC Board from Warren County as the PEO is former Warren County Presiding Commissioner Fred Vahle of Warrenton, with Angie Scott, of Warrenton, representing Youth in Need of Warrenton as the CIRNECAC administers more than 60 programs through contracts and grants with federal, state and local governments, private businesses and other not-for profit organizations to operate and administer self-sufficiency service programs for the low-income, elderly, youth, disabled and disadvantaged population.
