NECAC joins in observance of NeighborWorks America Week

The not-for-profit North East Community Action Corporation (NECAC) is joining in the national observance of NeighborWorks America Week June 6-14.The annual event offers NeighborWorks and its network of local organizations such as NECAC the chance to showcase community programs and services.NECAC is a 12-county area social service, community health and public housing Community Action Agency headquartered in Bowling Green that contracts with federal, state and local governments, private businesses and other not-for-profit organizations to operate and administer self-sufficiency service programs for the low-income, elderly, youth, disabled and disadvantaged population.As a part of NeighborWorks Week, NECAC and its partners are hosting the Tri-State Housing Summit June 10 in Fort Madison, Iowa. John Santner, NeighborWorks vice president for the Midwest Region, will be one of the speakers.In addition, NeighborWorks is sponsoring a “Me and My Community” Selfie Photo Contest. Details are available at www.neighborworks.org.NECAC is a chartered member of NeighorWorks and has used grants to finance a variety of homeownership and housing rehabilitation programs.“NeighborWorks is an integral part of the success of NECAC and our housing development mission,” said NECAC Deputy Director for Housing Development Programs Carla Potts.“NECAC’s success in developing these programs would not have been as tremendous as it has been without NeighborWorks.”In the last 18 months, NECAC has helped 79 families become homeowners, rehabilitated 360 owner-occupied homes and repaired another 417 through weatherization, counseled 549 families with homeownership training and pre-purchase education and provided foreclosure modification to 33 families.In addition, NECAC has leveraged direct investment dollars totaling $11,344,966 for additional housing efforts.More information about NECAC housing programs is available by calling Potts at 573-324-6622.NECAC
