Native of England participates in exchange program

Warren County welcomed Hannah Pert as an inbound cultural exchangee through the IFYE program (formerly known as International Four-H Youth Exchange) on June 21.IFYE is a two-way cultural exchange, immersing young adults over the age of 19, in other cultures around the world. Participants live and interact with host families for several months. This environment helps create a better understanding of cultural diversity through day to day living experiences, rather than being treated as a guest or tourist.Hannah is from Barnstable in Devon County, England, and an active member of the Young Farmers Club.During Hannah’s stay in the Warrenton area, her host family collaboration includes Rusty and Teresa Lee and their children, Doralynn and William; Verlyn and Donna Schulze; Gerald and Maxine Schulze; and Carmen Schulze.IFYE’s first international exchanges began in 1948. Since then, over 5,000 delegates from the United States have lived abroad; and a similar number of international delegates have lived with host families in the U.S.Host families are selected through an application and interview process. Successful host families have a strong desire to open their hearts and homes to an international participant by sharing their daily lives. Serving as a host family is approximately a three-week commitment. By living with several host families during a three-month stay, delegates experience a wider variety of cultural and family experiences.Further information about the IFYE program can be obtained from Vicky Warren at Victoria1984.vw@gmail.com, Missouri IFYE coordinator, or Alan Lambert, national IFYE program director at alanelambert@gmail.com.
