State Reps. Bryan Spencer, Bart Korman and Justin Hill have announced the winners of the Glory of Missouri Award for 2017.

The awards were created to recognize students who display virtuous qualities both as students and as citizens.

Each student honored represents one of the virtues of good government engraved on the walls of the House Chamber.

The virtues include knowledge, liberty, equality, law, justice, fraternity, education, progress, honor, truth, virtue, temperance, enterprise and charity.

“As Missouri legislators, we are committed to government with these virtues and want to acknowledge outstanding students who exemplify them in the school, as well as throughout the community,” said Spencer, R-Wentzville.

Many students earned the award. These Warren County students were among them:

For the virtue of education, Ashley Ghannoum, a Wright City sophomore, and Drew Hall, a Warrenton High School senior, were the award recipients.

Andrew Voss, a sophomore at Liberty Christian Academy in Wright City, earned the award for enterprise.

Joseph Romero, a senior at Wright City  High School, was recognized for fraternity

Abby Thomas, a senior, and Megan McCloud, a sophomore, both in Wright City schools, were awarded for honor.

Josh Dames, an eighth-grader at Liberty Christian Academy, was awarded for justice.

Ryan Pritchard, a senior at Wright City High School, was an awardee in knowlege.

In the virtue for law, Liberty Christian Academy freshman Josiah Brumagin and Wright City High School senior  Julian Muller-Williams were recognized.

Jacob Nagel, a home-schooled student in Wright City and a junior, was awarded for liberty with Hannah Shields, a freshman at Wright City High School.

Jordan Rosen, a senior at Wright City High School, and Heidi Duff, a home-schooled senior who lives in Wright City, were awarded for the virtue of progress.

Rhianna Meyer, an eighth-grader at Liberty Christian Academy, was awarded for the virtue of temperance.

Mary Anna Hail, a Wright City High School junior, and Cameron Oliver, an eighth-grader at Liberty Christian Academy, were winners for truth.

For virtue, Zoe Pezold, a senior at Wright City High School, was honored.

“Seeing the quality of students that represents this Class of 2017 Glory of Missouri Awards shows me a bright future in Missouri,” said  Korman, R-High Hill. “Together, I believe that we can build up our students to unprecedented success.”

“These students have demonstrated their willingness to better themselves and the community around them,” said Hill, R-Lake Saint Louis. “It is my hope that the students will continue to pursue excellence in both their studies and community contributions.”

Nominations for each of these categories were made by teachers, community leaders and parents.

Spencer, Korman and Hill are now accepting nominations for the 2018 Glory of Missouri Awards. Individuals interested in nominating an outstanding student must provide a name, address, category and 50 words or less regarding how the student represents their characteristic category.

Nominations should be mailed to their representative at Missouri State Capitol, 201 West Capitol Avenue, Jefferson City, MO 65101 or by fax at 573-522-0463.
