Murder suspect found dead in jail cell

A man who had lived and worked in Warrenton, and was awaiting trial for the killings of five people in 2016, was found dead in his jail cell in St. Louis, authorities said.The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office issued a statement Tuesday, April 9, that Pablo Serrano-Vitorino, 43, was found alone and non-responsive in his cell at the St. Louis Justice Center just after 2 a.m. He was transported to a hospital and was pronounced dead an hour later.Authorities did not specify a cause of death.Serrano-Vitorino was arrested in March 2016, accused of fatally shooting Montgomery County resident Randy Nordman at his home in New Florence. Serrano-Vitorino had been fleeing from police after allegedly killing four other people the previous day in Kansas City, Kan.Serrano-Vitorino is a Mexican national who was in the U.S. illegally when the killings occurred. He previously lived and worked in Warrenton and was arrested at least twice by Warrenton police in 2004 for property damage and domestic assault. At the time he was using an alias, according to police records.Serrano-Vitorino was charged with first-degree murder, first-degree burglary and armed criminal action in Montgomery County. His case was later transferred to the circuit court in the city of St. Louis, where he was being held awaiting trial and facing a possible death sentence.Four charges of first degree murder also awaited him in Wyandotte County, Kan., according to the Associated Press.
