The Missouri State High School Athletic Association announced its football and basketball district realignments for the 2016-17 school year.
Wright City football will move from District 5 to District 6 next fall in Class 3.
Centralia, Duchesne, Macon and Orchard Farm will be replaced by Blair Oaks, Fulton, Mexico and Southern Boone.
“Our district definitely got a little tougher, but I’m not too worried about that,” Wright City Head Coach Jeff Sargent said. “Because I know what we have coming back.”
Newcomer Blair Oaks advanced to the Class 3 state semifinals last season, losing to eventual state champion John Burroughs.
Centralia defeated Wright City in last year’s district championship game, 43-12.
“The one team that scared me is the team we ran into in our district championship,” Sargent said of Centralia. “I think we match up well with all the teams and that we’re still in the top echelon of our conference.”
Fulton, along with Wright City, advanced to the Class 3 round of 16.
The Wright City basketball programs will see a drastic change in its district tournaments, as four Eastern Missouri Conference teams unite for the postseason tournament.
Wright City, Montgomery County and North Callaway will join Bowling Green in the Class 3, District 7 tournament, along with O’Fallon Christian, Winfield, Missouri Military Academy and Lutheran St. Charles.
Warrenton football will remain in Class 4, District 7 with minimal changes.
Mexico will drop down to Class 3 and will be replaced by Warrensburg,
Along with Warrenton, the other teams will include Moberly, Marshall, Liberty, Kirksville, Helias and Hannibal.
The Warrenton girls basketball team will defend its Class 4, District 8 championship against a pair of new teams.
Kirksville and Moberly will be replaced by St. Dominic and GAC North rival Liberty, who will be joined by Fulton, Hannibal and Mexico.
Last season, St. Dominic beat Liberty in the Class 4, District 7 quarterfinals before losing to St. Charles in the championship.
On the boys side, neither St. Dominic nor Liberty advanced past the quarterfinals in the District 7 bracket.
