In light of dropping temperatures today and continued precipitation expected, the Missouri Department of Transportation’s Northeast District is issuing a travel advisory during the afternoon and evening of Thursday, Jan. 11.“There is significant concern for black ice on roads and bridges, despite our treatment today and tonight,” said Jennifer Hinson, district maintenance and traffic engineer.MoDOT crews will continue to be out in most of northeast Missouri to put down material where it is needed and monitor roads and bridges.Hinson said it can be hard to spot ice on the road, especially in the evening. Area residents driving home from work should plan ahead, take extra time, drive cautiously and always wear a seat belt, she said.MoDOT’s online traveler information map at www.modot.org is the best source of information for road conditions, displaying the condition of the major roads. Minor roads are not shown on the map, and tomorrow morning these can be expected to have some ice and slush.Customer service representatives are available 24/7 at 1-888-275-6636.Weather advisory
