A vehicle belonging to a missing Iowa woman was discovered at an abandoned property off Highway F just outside Wright City Sunday, but no clues have emerged on how it got there or her whereabouts. The Warren County Sheriff's Department is seeking information from local residents who may have had contact with Sharon R. Hopf or seen her walking along Highway F. Hopf, 45, of rural Crawfordsville, Iowa, has been missing since Jan. 5. Local authorities said it remains a mystery as to how and why Hopf's 1991 white Chevrolet Lumina wound up over 200 miles away from her hometown. "We are concerned where she is," said Detective Scott Schoenfeld, of the Warren County Sheriff‘s Department. On the day Hopf went missing, police said she left her home for work around 7 a.m. but failed to show up at a furniture store she owns in Kalona, Iowa. Later that evening, she was reported missing by her husband and other family members who had been looking for her throughout the day. The last confirmed sighting of Hopf was at 8:30 a.m. on Jan. 5 at a gas station in Washington, Iowa, near her hometown. Hopf's Chevy Lumina was located by deputies at an abandoned home at 28566 Highway F. Police said the surrounding area near the vehicle was searched, but Hopf was not located. Schoenfeld said Hopf's cellphone was located in the locked vehicle. "The circumstances are suspicious to say the least," he said. Hopf is described as 5-foot-8 and 160 pounds. She has brown hair and blue eyes and wears glasses. "We don't know why her car is in Wright City, why she was in Wright City," Schoenfeld said. "We don't know if she is responsible. Her family said this behavior is not normal. They are concerned." Anyone with information regarding Hopf's whereabouts or her disappearance is asked to contact the Warren County Sheriff's Department at 636-456-7088 or the Washington County (Iowa) Sheriff's Department at 319-653-2107.
