A man accused of breaking into Wright City Middle School and doing thousands of dollars in damage has been taken into custody.Brendan W. Goulette, 20, Warrenton, was arrested Aug. 30 and charged with second-degree burglary and first-degree property damage. The charges are punishable by a prison sentence or fines.Goulette had an arraignment scheduled for Sept. 5 in Warren County Circuit Court. The break-in happened after 11 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11. Damage was discovered by school district staff the next morning.Goulette allegedly gained entrance to the school by throwing an outdoor light fixture through a glass door. Once inside, he is suspected of doing more than $5,000 worth of damage, according to a Wright City police report.Damaged items included a copy machine that was smashed with a paper cutter, shattered glass doors of a trophy case, and a bass drum in the music room that had been punctured by a music stand.Graffiti reading “FTP” and “G59” was painted onto cabinets and walls, and more paint was randomly scattered onto the floor and walls of the art room. Police said the suspect also left a trail of what appeared to be blood throughout the building. While investigating the school break-in, Wright City police also received video from a property damage report that same night at Mikey’s Pour House Pub and Grill, less than one-fourth mile from the middle school. The suspect in both incidents appeared to be the same person.Witnesses at Mikey’s identified Goulette as the suspect. Staff told police he had “destroyed” the bathroom and was kicked out of the bar around 10:30 p.m. Staff said he had cut himself during the destruction and was bleeding when he was thrown out.Police executed a search warrant at Goulette’s residence Aug. 17. Officers located shorts with apparent bloodstains on them that matched the clothing in the video, as well as a shoe with the letters “FTP” written on the sole, according to the police report.
