Michael Mohrmann of Warrenton received an outstanding athlete award from the Special Olympics Missouri.Special Olympics Missouri salutes those who have made significant contributions to the Special Olympics movement. Each area nominee is submitted for statewide recognition and the overall winners are announced at the Special Olympics Missouri Summit.Michael has been involved in Special Olympics Missouri sports since 2007, the earliest he could join the program through his school district. As a high school student, he has excelled in the sports of basketball, bowling, athletics, volleyball and bocce and has been a leader of his team.When he’s not doing sports activities, he is advocating for Special Olympics with his peers and in the community. He hosts speaking engagements and helps rev up interest in events like the Polar Plunge and Over the Edge.He was honored with the award for his dedication and leadership to the Special Olympics. Special Olympics Missouri is a year-round program of sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.More than 15,000 athletes participate in 21 Olympic-type sports throughout the state.Special Olympics provides people with intellectual disabilities continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, and experience joy as they participate in the sharing of gifts and friendship with their fellow athletes, their family and friends, and communities across Missouri.
