Wright City’s Michael Holmes will continue his baseball career at Greenville College next season.
The senior pitcher is 1-0 this season and leads the Wildcats with a 0.64 earned-run average.
Greenville College is an NCAA Division-III program in Greenville, Ill., and plays in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference.
Holmes said there were plenty of reasons to continue his playing career with the Panthers.
“I enjoy the small-school Christian environment,” he said. “I know Austin (Marsh) from high school and it was good to have someone you know up there. It’s close to home, too, which is another big thing for me.”
Last season Holmes was one of seven Wildcat pitchers in a crowded rotation.
He started three games and tossed 21 2/3 innings, posting a 2.91 earned-run average and striking out 12.
He has already pitched 11 innings through five games this spring, matching last year’s strikeout total.
He isn’t sure how soon he could make his way into Greenville’s rotation, but is hoping for the best.
“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me, and I’m just glad I could sign and continue my baseball career at Greenville,” he said. “I want to do my best and do whatever is best for the team, that’s the main goal for me.”
