Metal recycling storage business opening in Truesdale

By Janine DavisRecord Staff WriterA Fenton-based metal recycling company plans to move some of its operations into a vacant Truesdale building.Officials with Harlin Mitauer Recycling LLC say they will warehouse metal goods and equipment at the location in an effort to help manage its rapid growth. The Truesdale Board of Aldermen voted unanimously last week to grant a business license to the company contingent on final inspections and it obtaining an occupancy permit. The company plans to lease the vacant warehouse facility at 1004 East Veterans Memorial Parkway directly across from Warrenton Tire and Muffler. In a presentation to the board, Harlin Mitauer representative Joe Frost said the company’s principal buyer and president has been in the metal recycling business 35 years and that the Mitauer family has been in the business since 1886.The new company was launched last summer.“We’ve been looking for additional operating space for our business,” said Frost. He told city leaders that the space would be used for storage of equipment and metals, including aluminum, brass, steel, copper, zinc, titanium and other byproducts of tool-and-die shops and fabricators.Frost said the company also has an interest in retail recycling here, but that the immediate priority is to have a place to safely store its equipment and materials. He said electricity needs to be brought up to code and plumbing fixed before the company makes its move.Frost told Truesdale officials that company officials looked at several locations, including Natural Bridge and Cape Girardeau, and felt Truesdale offered the best overall value.“This location, for the price, was very appealing,” said Frost. He said the company primarily sells its products wherever it can get the best price on any given day based on the American metal market, and that most business currently is in downtown St. Louis and Venice, Ill.“We keep our goods moving, so having a storage facility with the four docks we’ll have here is important,” Frost said, noting the company currently is breaking down a large facility in St. Louis that has gone into receivership. He said the company is committed to keeping the building and surrounding area looking clean and presentable.“Our dock roll-offs are cardinal red and beautiful,” said Frost.Frost said the facility will not be handling or using any processing chemicals or hazardous materials.“We don’t deal in anything that has a hint of EPA issues,” said Frost.Frost said the company is considering what type of security measures to take to keep its goods safe overnight.

Harlin Mitauer Recycling LLC of Fenton will take over a vacant warehouse at 1004 Veterans Memorial Parkway across from Warrenton Tire and Muffler.
