Posted

Name: Kyle Lewis

Age: 33

Hometown: Wright City

Occupation: Boeing, program manager

Position sought: Wright City R-II School Board

Previous political experience: Currently serving first term on Wright City R-II School Board

Why are you running and why should people vote for you?

I am seeking re-election for a couple of reasons. First, my son is currently a student in the district, and his sister will join him in the coming years. This is motivating to me, like any parent in the district, to advocate for the highest quality education and resources for our students. Second, I have spent the last three years serving collectively on this board to represent the interests and concerns of district members, something I wish to continue. Finally, Wright City is my hometown, and I take deep pride in our students’ success. I am committed to striving for excellence and opportunity for future generations.

What are your goals if elected?

If re-elected, my goals will continue to be academic improvement, facility planning, and retention. Over the last three years, our district has made strides while building on opportunities as well. Academically, we are well-positioned under current administrative leadership for forward growth. In the past year, the board has approved multiple recommendations, including adjustments in curriculum, implementing curriculum coaches, and introducing real EOC testing conditions at the high school monthly. We have also established goals for improved facility planning and maintenance, ensuring sound fiscal budgeting of taxpayer dollars. Our district now has a master plan and maintenance schedule, which is refined and adjusted as needed. Like other districts, we are addressing employee retention through continually refined board goals. This can be positively impacted through clear communication with parents and constituents, which I believe has improved over the last few years.

What issues are most pressing for your constituency?

I believe that the issues most pressing to constituents are plentiful. First, they wish the district to provide all students with the tools to be successful academically and to prepare them for their unique individual next chapter after graduation. Next, as a growing district, they wish for sound planning for growth and fiscal responsibility in our budget. Finally, as we navigate modern life, communication and transparency from district leadership are key. If there are other issues pressing to constituents, I welcome anyone to contact me at my personal or district email.
