MB Motorsports marked a significant milestone this past Thursday at the Kentucky Speedway for the UNOH 225.The race marked its 20th anniversary. It was in July of 1995 that the team ran its very first race at the famed Milwaukee Mile. Two decades later, they are the sole surviving original team in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.“This team has so much history,” says driver Justin Jennings. “I’m very honored that I was the one behind the wheel of the No. 63 Mittler Brothers Chevy Silverado as the team celebrated its 20th anniversary.”Jennings finished 22nd in the Fifth Annual UNOH 225 for MB Motorsports. When team owner Mike Mittler decided to go racing in NASCAR’s newest series back in 1995, he already had 27 years of racing experience to his credit. He’d worked on all kinds of racecars, from drag racing to circle track. He was a member of the ASA Championship team of Rusty Wallace in 1982.“When NASCAR launched the Truck Series,” notes Mittler, “It created an opportunity for small teams to compete on a national level. Being based in Missouri may seem unusual to some, but this area was, and is, full of talent.”For that first race, the Sears Auto Center 125, Mittler and his team headed to the Milwaukee Mile with Springfield driver Tony Roper. They finished 22nd that day. Other Missouri natives would make their NASCAR presence known while driving for MB Motorsports, including Carl Edwards and Jamie McMurray. Other future NASCAR winners, including Mike Wallace, Justin Allgaier, Regan Smith and Brad Keselowski, all spent time behind the wheel of an MB Motorsports truck.“I like helping people,” says Mittler. “Along the way, our team has been able to give some talented young drivers an opportunity to learn, gain experience and show the world what they were capable of.”Says Carl Edwards, “The time I spent with MB Motorsports and Mike Mittler was a springboard to my current NASCAR racing success. Mike and the team are the hardest working group in racing and have done the most with the least for years.”Reflecting over the past 20 years, Mittler had this to say.“When we started this team,” says Mittler. “I had no idea we’d be celebrating our 20th anniversary in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. I have to say, though, to be able to look back and see what we’ve been able to accomplish and the young drivers we have had the opportunity to work with, is very gratifying.”
