Mayfield scores twice in conference victory

Record Managing EditorThe Winfield boys soccer team probably has seen enough of Warrenton senior Dillen Mayfield this fall.On Tuesday, Mayfield made his presence known again in the Gateway Athletic Conference North contest.Already the school’s career leader in goals, Mayfield added to his total with two more goals in the 6-1 home win.Mayfield also added two assists for the Warriors, who improved to 6-13-1. He has now scored 17 goals on the season and five in the past two games.When Warrenton beat Winfield 3-1 earlier this season, Mayfield had two assists in the win.In Tuesday’s contest, the Warriors led 2-1 at halftime, but erupted for four goals in the second period. Scoring for the Warriors were Nick Forrest, Paul Lanigan, Taylor Lutz and Andrew Hodgson. Forrest’s goal was his 21st on the season. Goalie Sawyer Junker made seven saves in the win.Warrenton won’t be back in action until Oct. 20 when it hosts Union.St. Charles 6, Warrenton 4: Mayfield recorded a hat trick Monday, but the visiting Pirates completed an undefeated run in the GAC North.St. Charles (14-4-1, 8-0) led 3-2 at intermission and tacked on three more goals in the second half. Kevin Romero had two goals and an assist to lead the Pirates.Nick Forrest scored a goal for Warrenton, while Paul Lanigan had an assist. Sawyer Junker had six saves.
