Mayfield leads all-conference honors

By Kory CarpenterRecord Sports EditorSenior forward Dillen Mayfield was named to the All-Gateway Athletic Conference North first team after finishing his senior season with 20 goals and nine assists.Mayfield scored two game-winning goals for the Warriors and filled in at goalkeeper as well, putting in 50 minutes of work in the net.“Dillen will be tough to replace,” Warrenton Head Coach John Schulte said. “He was really big for us this season.”Mayfield finished with a hat-trick in the 6-4 conference loss to St. Charles Oct. 12, and scored two goals in the conference finale win over Winfield the next day.Sophomore forward Nick Forrest had a team-high 23 goals on the season, including five in conference action, to earn a spot on the all-conference second team.“Nick Forrest really came through for us this year,” Schulte said. “He’s a really good player.”Forrest also led the Warriors with 51 points this season.He was joined on the all-conference second team by senior goalkeeper Sawyer Junker and freshman midfielder Isaac Frederick.Junker played eight games in the net for Warrenton, winning three and saving 76 percent of the shots he faced while recording two shutouts.“He will be hard to replace as well,” Schulte said.Frederick was third on the team with three goals and finished the season with three assists.“Isaac was one of those freshman that learned so much this year,” Schulte said. “Next year they will be able to put that experience into practice.”
