There’ll be sing-a-longs and plenty of giggles when reading “The Ants Go Marching,” an interactive board book by Priscilla Burns. The book is the newest chosen by parent educators with the Washington School District. Each month the group selects a quality book, naming it their Book Buzz Pick. They purchase additional copies of the books to use in their visits with children, their parents and caretakers. The following review was written by parent educator Christy Schmich.“I love this book – it’s a board book that children are sure to enjoy. It serves a variety of functions and is cleverly illustrated to draw children in.“The action begins with a scrumptious picnic on a yellow checkered table cloth. But oh, no! It starts to rain! What should the Ants do? They must save the feast, and so they begin to sing, ‘The Ants Go Marching.’“One by one and two by two, they carry the food under the table. The ants are all smiling and wearing colorful clothes as they sing their song. The shine of the silver raindrops increases on each page, as it rains harder and harder and faster and faster. All the ants work in teams to save the feast. Finally they’re successful. The food has been saved, hurray!”“This book demonstrates counting, naming foods and singing, all of which assist with speech and language skills. The book also shows the benefits of teamwork and will help children identify foods.‘“The Ants Go Marching’ is fun, exciting and captivating for babies and tots, and also will appeal to children of early school age.”"The Ants Go Marching"
