Marthasville’s Bicentennial Committee will meet Monday, Sept. 19, at 7 p.m. at Marthasville City Hall. Persons interested in assisting with commemorative activities are encouraged to attend. Representatives are needed from all of the area organizations, including schools and churches.The major celebration will be held Saturday, June 17, but activities are planned for each month of 2017.Marthasville was founded in 1817 by Dr. John Young. He named the town after his first wife, Martha, nee Fuqua.Dr. Young had purchased survey 1688, which was the Spanish Land Grant of William Ramsey. The original plat of the town contained 123 lots, distributed on North, Main and South streets, from First to Sixth streets. It was on high ground near the earlier Missouri River community of LaCharrette.Some of the proposed activities to celebrate the town’s bicentennial include events centered around holidays, patriotic and military recognition from throughout U.S. history, an antique car show, a Katy railroad and trail event, re-enactors portraying important persons who lived or visited here and a slideshow.Persons who have photographs depicting various times in Marthasville’s history may email scans or bring them to be scanned at a time to be announced later.Groups who are planning a public event in the Marthasville area during 2017 should notify the committee of the dates as soon as possible.Anyone interested in planning or sponsoring one of the proposed events is welcome to join the committee.People should send an email to marthasville200@gmail.com to ask a question or be included on the mailing list.Marthasville
