The Marthasville Board of Aldermen has voted to make stormwater repairs that have been affecting properties for years.“There are two pipes on Lane Garrett Drive in the city limits that need repairs. One is 98 percent clogged, the other is 60 to 70 percent clogged,” said Mayor David Lange. “We’re going to dig it up and fix it.”Lange said for the last six to eight years, maybe longer, clogging in stormwater pipes has caused water to back up when it rains. Over time, as the clogs got worse, the flooding also got worse.“As soon as it starts to rain, just a standard rain, maybe an inch or so, it starts to flood because it’s so backed up,” Lange said. “It floods backyards and basements in neighborhoods.”One road also sustained some stormwater damage. The city has performed a water study. A video identified the exact sources of the water backups.Lange said one 2-foot pipe will be repaired or replaced and one 18-inch pipe will be repaired or replaced. The work will be completed in less than a week by Lemke Excavating. Lange said the city will keep costs as low as possible.Marthasville
