The city of Marthasville is moving forward with improvements to its water system on the northeast side of the city.
The city’s board of aldermen voted unanimously to approve easement agreements March 18, which Mayor David Lange said will be used for new water lines connecting the far ends of Rottmann Drive, Tiffany Court, Daniel’s Trail and Northridge Drive. It’s part of the city’s larger plans for upgrading its water network.
“That part of the project was recommended by Cochran (Engineering) in a 2012 study and a 2017 study,” Lange said. “All of those lines basically dead end. ... To get good water circulation, the engineering firm recommended we tie these all in (together).”
Lange added that poor water circulation could lead to situations where the chlorine used to sanitize the water is more noticeable at some houses compared to others.
Lange said he wants the city to begin doing what work it can while the legal agreements are finalized, and aldermen agreed.
City leaders also discussed work to provide water and sewer service to undeveloped lots in the area of Fourth Street, but did not take action.
Long term, Lange said the city plans to install a new well on the northeast side of the city.
Aldermen voted to approve a total of four easement agreements March 18 for the water system improvements.
A bill to approve a real estate transaction related to the water system improvements was tabled at the March 18 meeting.
