Record Staff WriterIncumbent John Graham will face write-in candidate Dan Grafrath for the East Ward seat on the Marthasville Board of Aldermen.Graham, 38, is seeking re-election to the seat he has held since being appointed in 2010.One of his main goals, he said, is to continue with making the improvements that are outlined in the city’s comprehensive plan.“We spent two years developing a comprehensive plan,” he said. “It outlines where we want to go in the future.” Graham said he would like to see street improvements continue and he plans to “take on planning and zoning” next term to create regulations for the city to ensure the infrastructure is up to par.“We have been plagued by issues on some streets with stormwater (drainage),” he said. “I would like to see a plan in place so those issues don’t happen.”Graham also would like the city to continue with some beautification projects and create and improve existing amenities that could attract businesses and tourists.“We have already enhanced the city park with new restrooms,” he said. Graham said although the city’s planning board already has codes in place, if he is elected he would like to develop a more cohesive approval process to ensure new construction is up to code and safe for the community.“This would be for the betterment of the city and would prevent the possibility of a tax burden to the citizens,” he said.Graham is employed as a quality control manager at LMI Aerospace in Washington.Grafrath, 43, who is seeking his first term, said he decided to run because he would like to help the community to move forward in a positive direction.“There are some things that need to be done such as roadwork and bridge repair,” he said.Grafrath, who works for Lamke Trenching in Concord Hill, said he brings his on-the-job experience to the table when it comes to infrastructure improvements.Although he has never sought a public office before, Grafrath is no stranger to community service. He has been a volunteer firefighter with the Marthasville Volunteer Fire Department for 24 years and is currently the assistant chief.Marthasville race pits incumbent against write-in candidate
