By Janine DavisRecord Staff WriterFor a small community, Marthasville has a plethora of beautiful parks, which now will be unified and governed by a newly appointed nine-member citywide park board.City leaders approved an ordinance at the April 16 board of aldermen meeting establishing the new park board that will have authority over six parks: City Park, Charrette, Hoffmann, Lichtenberg, Rusche and Wessel.“We wanted to have a mix of people on this board, and believe the composition will be successful,” said Mayor Jason Schantz.Board members are Phyllis Astin, Gene Ahmann, Jim Buescher, Loretta Davis, Pam Jensen, Terri Renfrow and Carla Skouby. Ex-officio members are Mayor Schantz and Trei Irwin.In-city residency requirements keep Irwin, who regularly works on park facilities, from serving on the board, but he can serve in an ex-officio capacity.Schantz said multiple city parks that have had individual oversight boards, such as Rusche Park, will continue to be overseen by committees. Buescher and Ahmann both will continue to serve on the Rusche Park committee. The new board is intended to serve as a body that will provide continuity among all park projects in the city.In other action, Irwin reported that construction is continuing for the new permanent restrooms at City Park, with plans to have the structure complete by the first Concert in the Park on May 23.Marthasville parks to be governed by new board
