A Marthasville man was charged with felony driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident following an incident Sept. 28.

According to a probable cause affidavit submitted by the Warren County Sheriff’s Department, a Marthasville Fire Protection District vehicle was struck by a vehicle traveling north on Tuque Creek Road, which then left the scene. Marthasville fire personnel advised the vehicle turned around in the middle of the road and traveled past them again.

Eventually a deputy made contact with the driver, Philip Thomson of Marthasville. Thomson’s vehicle had damage to the front driver’s side of the vehicle. Thomson told the deputy he tried to stop, in reference to striking the fire vehicle. The deputy reported in the probable cause affidavit that upon exiting the vehicle Thomson stumbled and was mumbling and slurring in his speech. The deputy also observed the strong odor of alcohol coming from Thomson, according to the affidavit.

According to the affidavit, Thomson failed the one field sobriety test administered to him and refused additional tests.

The damage to the Marthasville fire vehicle was estimated at $1,600.

A no bond warrant was issued for Thomson’s arrest.
