Marthasville Fall Festival organizers plan to build on a successful campaign after resurrecting the event a year ago.
The Marthasville Area Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the 2010 Fall Festival beginning Friday, Sept. 10, and ending Sunday, Sept. 12. Most of the events will be held at the Marthasville Community Club as both organizations combine their resources for the weekend.
This year’s theme is “Celebrating Country Living.”
Last year, organizers estimated 1,000 to 1,200 people attended the festival on Saturday, with even more in attendance on Sunday when admission was free.
For the second consecutive year, a $5 admission fee will be charged Saturday at the community club for those 16 and older. There is no admission charge on Sunday.
Chamber member Larry Brewe said this year’s event has garnered plenty of support from the community.
“We’re happy with the cooperation from the community club,” he said. “We’ve also had number of individuals step up and sponsor the events.”
The Fall Festival has been resurrected following several years of being known as Heritage Days and being held on the same October weekend as nearby Deutsch Country Days. Most of this weekend’s events will be held at the Marthasville Community Club as both entities.
The weekend schedule is loaded with activities, including an antique tractor show, sand volleyball and dodge ball tournaments, a tractor pull and parade.
Live music will be featured both nights. On Saturday, two bluegrass bands, Twin Rivers and Summit Grass, will play from 1-6 p.m.
“We have two stages and they will play continuously,” Brewe said.
Mindspin will then perform from 8 p.m.-midnight to close out the evening.
On Sunday, country band Western Satellites will play from 2-6 p.m.
The festivities begin this Friday with a chili supper at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ from 5-7 p.m. with a card party to follow.
A variety of booths and a petting zoo will be open 9 a.m.-7 p.m. during the weekend. On Saturday, a coed sand volleyball and youth dodge ball tournaments begin at 10 a.m. An antique tractor show, new this year, will begin at 1 p.m.
At 4 p.m., a field class tractor pull will start. To preregister, call 636-667-0337.
On Sunday, an adult dodge ball tournament will begin at 10 a.m.
The parade will be held Sunday beginning at 1 p.m. at Marthasville Elementary School. The route will circle around the city park and end at the community club.
Following the parade, a car cruise will be held feature a wide array of vehicles. The first 75 vehicles will receive dash plaques. There is no registration fee. For more information, call 636-932-4875.
A pedal tractor pull will also be held at 2 p.m.
Activities for children, featuring face painting, a bounce house and barrel train rides, will be held throughout the weekend.
“This year we have an idea on how everything will be set up and we have areas geared toward youth, teenagers and adults,” Brewe said. “There was a lot of positive feedback last year. Parents appreciate they could turn their kids loose and it was safe and secure.
Food and beverages will be sold throughout the weekend. Coolers are prohibited, but alcohol will be sold.
