Marthasville employees receive pay raise

Posted
Record Staff Writer Marthasville city officials recently voted to give employees a pay increase and to convert two part-time positions to full time. The approved plan upgrades the positions of city clerk and police chief to full-time instead of part time, and provides a $2 an hour increase for both positions held respectively by Carla Heggemann and Gene Jenkins. Both will now earn $16 an hour. With the change, both Heggemann — who previously was on a 32-hour per week pay schedule — and Jenkins will receive two weeks of paid vacation and paid holidays. There will be no changes in city hall hours of operation, which are open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. “This is something the aldermen have been looking at for some time,” Mayor Jason Schantz said. “We are always looking at ways of improving service for our citizens, and both city hall and the police department are areas where residents have expressed a desire for increased coverage.’ Four other city employee positions including the assistant city clerk, police officer, public works and maintenance will receive a 50-cent per hour increase. The changes bring hourly pay to $13.50 each for assistant city clerk Lisa Irwin and police officer Ray House; $14.50 an hour for public works manager Dennis Kopp; and $13 for grass cutter Roland Mutert. The pay for Jon Struckhoff, who was hired recently in public works, remains at $13 an hour. The pay increases and status changes were voted on in a closed session following the open board of aldermen meeting July 18.
