A driver from Marthasville was in one of eight vehicles caught in a chain-reaction crash that shut down westbound Interstate 70 last week. The crash is being blamed on a plastic container that fell from the bed of a pickup truck in St. Charles County west of Bryan Road, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol preliminary crash report. Drivers swerved and slowed to avoid the container, eventually causing one vehicle to strike the rear of another, pushing it forward into a chain of collisions just before noon on Friday, June 30.Kevin Engemann, 47, of Marthasville, was reportedly the third driver in the crash. According to the highway patrol, Engemann’s Chevrolet pickup truck was struck from behind by a Dodge minivan, causing Engemann’s truck to hit several other vehicles. The crash shut down all westbound lanes of I-70 for about an hour, before one lane was opened while responders continued to clear the accident.Engemann was not reported to be injured in the crash, although five children and one adult in other vehicles had minor injuries, according to the crash report.Engemann’s truck is listed as being completely totaled from the collisions. He was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, as were all other drivers and injured occupants, according to the highway patrol.Crash
