Marthasville mayor and aldermen will finally be getting a long-discussed raise. With a 3-1 vote, the board approved raises for the mayor and aldermen. Alderman Nick Lange voted against the ordinance. The new rates would be $2,000 annually for the mayor and $1,700 per year for the aldermen. The new rate is a $500 increase on the old salaries. The ordinances are for the positions and not for the currently elected officials. The last salary increase was in 2006. Under the ordinance the mayor and aldermen will be paid quarterly. Mayor David Lange said the old board proposed a raise of the salaries in 2014. The raises were even included in subsequent budgets, including the current budget, but no ordinance was ever passed to make the plan official. Lange said he and members of the board recently realized the discrepancy between what they thought they were getting paid and what they were actually receiving. The mayor and board recently have been doing an audit of city expenses and discovered the issue.City of Marthasville
