A Marthasville Board of Aldermen executive session called for March 16 did not take place because two aldermen walked out of the meeting.Near the end of Wednesday’s regular board meeting, Mayor David Lange requested the board go into closed session to discuss personnel. Aldermen Mike Kloeppel instead motioned to adjourn the meeting and not go into executive session.Kloeppel and Pam Jensen voted in favor of the motion to adjourn, while Aldermen Nick Lange and Dan Grafrath opposed. Mayor Lange broke the tie and voted in favor of having the executive session. The aldermen then took a five-minute recess, however, Kloeppel and Jensen left the building and did not return. Lacking a quorum, the board could not take any action during the executive session.Mayor Lange said Kloeppel and Jensen did the same thing earlier this month at a March 2 special meeting. “They got up and did this at the last executive session when there was a motion on the floor,” Lange said. “... We got all kinds of complaints against the police department, and we can’t even address them because they walked out of the meeting.”When asked why he left the executive session, Kloeppel said he would not comment.Jensen said she walked out of the meeting because she didn’t want to take part in another executive session.“They keep trying to fire Carla Heggemann, the city clerk,” Jensen said. “The mayor has a very strong dislike for her. There’s been issues — very minor little nothing. He should have talked to her and just let it go. Little things, certainly nothing to get fired for. ... He keeps trying to fire her and I’m sick of it.”Jensen said she has a formal complaint against the mayor and his recent actions.City of Marthasville
