The Warren County Marine Corps League is resuming its efforts to clean and care for the headstones on the graves of every military veteran in Warren County, and is in search of volunteers to help in their effort.
The first cemetery cleaning of the season is scheduled for Saturday, April 23, 8 a.m. at the Warrenton City Cemetery on West Booneslick Road/Highway MM. All volunteers are welcome to join and are appreciated.
The process of cleaning the headstones involves spraying a nonabrasive cleaning chemical and then lightly brushing to remove dirt and mildew without harming the stones.
Stones to be cleaned April 23 include a prominent monument over the grave of Joseph Fant, a veteran of the Mexican-American war and the American Civil War who also led a Union militia in Warren County.
