A California man has been charged with a federal drug crime after 34 pounds of crystal methamphetamine was found in his vehicle during a traffic stop on Interstate 70 in Foristell.Jonathan Bobadilla-Soto, 26, of Adelanto, Calif., was arrested Sept. 12 by drug task force officers and charged with possession with intent to distribute, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Missouri.The U.S. Attorney’s Office said officers stopped Bobadilla-Soto for a traffic violation while he was driving a white Chevrolet Traverse westbound on I-70. Officers asked Bobadilla-Soto for consent to search the vehicle for suspected illegal narcotics or large bulk currency, which he reportedly granted.While an officer searched the rear of the SUV, the rear hatch failed to stay up and fell down on an officer. The officer became suspicious that the hatch was too heavy to stay up, and noticed a small gap in the plastic interior.Officers dismantled the rear hatch of the SUV and inside found 17 individually wrapped bundles of meth, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said. Officers continued to dismantle the vehicle, finding 17 more packages hidden in the ceiling compartment and rear quarter panels.The U.S. Attorney’s Office has requested Bobadilla-Soto be detained pending trial. The case is being investigated by the St. Charles County Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration.Drug Arrest
