A Warren County man walked into the Warren County Courthouse Monday morning after shooting himself in an apparent suicide attempt. The man, identified as 60-year-old David Cooper, was scheduled to surrender this week and begin a prison sentence stemming from a 2010 federal conviction for possession of child pornography, according to authorities. Cooper, who lived in the 20000 block of Cypress Lane Loop West, Warrenton, was listed on the state’s sex offender registry. Authorities said Cooper shot himself in Truesdale and then drove to the courthouse in Warrenton around 10 a.m. He entered the building bleeding from the self-inflicted gunshot to the chin. It was believed Cooper drove to the courthouse looking for help. He was rushed by ambulance to Base 1 and then flown to St. John’s Mercy Medical Center in Creve Coeur. Cooper’s injuries were not considered life-threatening, authorities said Tuesday, and he was expected to be released within a day or two from the hospital.
