A St. Peters man pleaded guilty to slapping a 6-month-old baby and will spend 60 days of shock time in the Warren County Jail.Nicholas Johnson, 28, was sentenced Dec. 8 by Judge Wes Dalton after reaching a plea deal with prosecutors. He was convicted of first-degree child endangerment.Dalton suspended the execution of a seven-year prison sentence and placed Johnson on five years of probation, according to online court records. The incident occurred Nov. 10, 2014, at a home in the 600 block of Garnet Court where Johnson had been watching the baby. When the infant’s mother returned home around 5:15 p.m., she heard a slapping noise and her baby crying hysterically upstairs, according to a probable cause statement. She went upstairs and observed Johnson quickly grabbing the infant from the crib. She took the baby from Johnson and he became defensive about the situation.Prior to police arriving, a photograph was taken that showed redness on the baby’s right eye, cheek and multiple marks on his forehead. Police concluded that the marks in the photograph appeared to be consistent with a handprint.Johnson told police he became agitated while watching the baby all day, according to the probable cause statement.Nicholas Johnson
