Man receives 42 months for raping teen

Record Managing Editor A 25-year-old Warrenton man recently was sentenced to 42 months in jail for sexually assaulting a teenage girl. Andrew Maragni, 25, entered an Alford plea to second-degree rape during a court appearance in St. Charles County on May 19 By entering an Alford plea, Maragni does not admit guilt, but concedes there is enough evidence for conviction. He entered the plea to a lesser offense that was part of a plea agreement. Maragni was initially charged with one count each of first-degree rape and first-degree sodomy. Warren County Prosecutor Jennifer Bartlett said there was not enough evidence to support forcible rape. “When speaking with the victim, there were factors only to support rape in the second degree,” she said. She added the victim’s family accepted the recommendation made by prosecutors. According to court documents, the girl was at Maragni’s apartment Aug. 31, 2013, when he started kissing her, removed her clothing and asked her if she wanted to have sex. The girl told him no several times, but Maragni alleged performed several sexual acts, police said. The female was 17 at the time of the sexual contact, Bartlett said. Maragni has been incarcerated since he was arrested Sept. 1, 2013. The case was held in St. Charles County, after a change of venue was granted earlier this year.
