One of four people suspected of stealing an AK-47 rifle and a handgun in May has pleaded guilty to six criminal charges.
De’Aunte M. Shaw, 19, Columbia, submitted the guilty plea during a court hearing Nov. 17. He was charged with two counts each of stealing a firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm.
Shaw is a convicted felon who is not allowed to be in possession of firearms. He was serving a four-year probation for allegedly receiving stolen property in July 2016.
The teen also pleaded guilty to second- and third-degree assaults committed at the 2200 block of Pinta Drive in Warrenton just before he was arrested.
Shaw will be sentenced Dec. 15 by Audrain County Associate Judge Linda Hamlett, at a hearing at the Audrain Circuit Court in Mexico, Mo.
Shaw and three others were arrested May 17 by police searching for an SUV believed to be connected to a home invasion in Warrenton. Less than 10 minutes after receiving an alert to watch for the vehicle, Wright City police spotted a matching SUV exiting Interstate 70 at Wildcat Drive, police said.
Police stopped the vehicle and found three males and two females inside. During a search, police found three firearms, including a stolen AK-47 and handgun.
The three others charged for stealing the firearms are Jamel Tackett, 18, Columbia; Dydreonte Buchanan, 18, Columbia; and Kayla M. Spiva, 21, Hallsville. Stealing a firearm is a Class D felony with a penalty of up to seven years in prison.
A fifth person in the vehicle was not charged with a crime or identified by authorities immediately following the arrest.
The three remaining suspects are free from jail on $10,000 bonds. Tackett and Spiva have hearings scheduled for Nov. 29, and Buchanan has a hearing Dec. 5, all in the Warren County Circuit Court.
