Man killed, woman charged with DWI following accident Friday

An 21-year-old Washington man was killed following an accident which also resulted in driving while intoxicated – death of another, and DWI – serious physical injury charges for Madison Baxter of Wright City.

According to a probable cause statement filed by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Madison Baxter of Wright City was arrested following a fatal motor vehicle crash on northbound County Farm Road north of Depping Drive around 11:25 p.m. Friday, June 5.

According to the probable cause statement, when the officer arrived on scene, the officer was informed by Warren County Sheriff’s Department deputies on scene that there was a deceased individual still in the vehicle. The officer made contact Baxter, who was the driver of the 2012 Kia Optima involved in the accident. The officer noted Baxter’s eyes are glassy and her eyelids are drooping. She was described as emotional and slurring her words as she spoke. Baxter admitted to having one shot and a couple of drinks. Baxter submitted to a preliminary breath test that showed a positive result for alcohol. Later at SSM Health St. Joseph Hospital – Lake Saint Louis, Baxter submitted to a blood draw, which will be sent to the crime lab for testing. She was later transported to the Warren County Jail.

According to the statement, Baxter’s vehicle was traveling northbound. She told the officer she was distracted reaching for food and her vehicle crossed the center of the roadway, traveled off the left side of the road and struck a tree.

The other passenger of the vehicle, a 24-year-old Wright City man, was transported to Mercy Hospital St. Louis with serious injuries.
