A St. Louis man was killed Sunday, April 23, when he drove onto railroad tracks in eastern Warren County and was struck by a train.
The Missouri Highway Patrol identified the drive as John E. Oates, 80. The accident occurred at 11:35 a.m. on Archer Road south of the South Service Road.
According to the preliminary investigation, Oates was driving a 2018 Ford F-350 northbound on Archer Road. He failed to stop and drove into the path of the Norfolk Southern train. The train pushed the vehicle off the roadway, causing it to overturn.
Oates was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials said the railroad crossing had no cross arms or flashing lights.
