Authorities have identified a pedestrian who died Friday when he was struck by a vehicle on the North Outer Road about 4 miles west of Warrenton.Christopher A. Robbins, 21, St. Louis, was hit by a pickup truck traveling eastbound on the road, west of Deerfield Lane, according to a Missouri Highway Patrol preliminary report. The crash happened sometime after 5 a.m.Robbins was believed to be walking along the road because his vehicle broke down or got stuck half a mile to the east. He was pronounced dead by emergency personnel at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck, 56-year-old Douglas Rainwater of Jonesburg, didn't see Robbins walking in the traffic lane, according to the report. It was still dark at the time, which emergency officials said likely contributed to the crash.Rainwater was not injured. His vehicle was towed from the scene with extensive damage.Warren County Ambulance Administrator Ralph Hellebusch said on Friday that medical staff were initially called at 5:03 a.m. to check on a vehicle stopped along the road about 3 1/2 miles west of Warrenton. The ambulance crew found an unoccupied vehicle and was returning to service when the call came in that a pedestrian had been hit west of their location, Hellebusch said. Robbins was dead before the ambulance arrived, he said. The Missouri Highway Patrol, Warrenton Police Department and Warren County Sheriff's Department also responded to the crash.
